      تجھے بھی جانچتے اپنا بھی امتحان کرتے
      کہیں چراغ جلاتے کہیں دھواں کرتے
      سفینہ ڈوب رہاتھا تو کیوں نہ یاد آیا
      تری طلب، ترے ارماں کو بادباں کرتے
      ہوا تھی تیز، جلاتے رہے دلوں کے چراغ
      کٹی ہے عمر، لہو اپنا رائیگاں کرتے
      وہ بے جہت کا سفر تھا، سوادِ شام نہ صبح
      کہاں پہ رکتے، کہاں یادِ رفتگاں کرتے
      دیارِ خواب میں ٹھہرے، حصارِ گل میں رہے
      مگر یہ غم ہی رہا خود کو شادماں کرتے۔
